Eco-Friendly Travel Essentials

There is A LOT that goes into planning the perfect holiday. You’ve got to pick your dream location, book the time off, make travel/sleeping arrangements, research the top attractions, and figure out what to cram into your carry-on without it bursting at the seams.

Packing for a holiday is hard (especially when you refuse to pay for anything but that slightly overfilled carry on). Here are some must-have eco friendly travel accessories to make pre-holiday packing a little less stressful and a lot less… plastic.

By switching to these eco-friendly travel products, you’ll be cutting down your carbon footprint AND supporting small businesses and great causes around the world.

Reusable Water Bottles

There are PLENTY of reasons to ditch single use plastic water bottles, especially if you care about what goes into your body and into our oceans. Each single use plastic bottle can take over 1,000 YEARS to break down, and even then we are left with micro plastics that find their way into the food we eat (which ends up in us, because we put it in our mouths)

Luckily there are also PLENTY of options when it comes to reusable bottles- some of our favorites being swell and the ocean bottle.

There are also reusable bottles that filter your water- so you know your belly is safe no matter where you go! Lifestraw is a great option to keep nasties out of your water and you out of the bathroom…

Reusable Mug

If you can’t live off of just water in your reusable bottle, don’t forget your reusable mug for tea, matcha, or that sweet sweet bean juice (coffee)

We like Circular&Co’s reusable coffee cup not just because it keeps our coffee warm. The brand collects millions of used coffee cups from around the country, cleans and shreds them and blends the material with a recycled polymer to form the new cups. The result is a robust, high-quality travel cup that is designed to last a decade and is 100 per cent recycled again at the end of its life, and we are here for this closed loop cup.

Solid Toiletries

We’re putting an end to lugging heavy bottles of shampoo and conditioner around (that will inevitably spill all over your suitcase and cause for a little extra *stress*)

We love these SOLID plastic free alternatives for shampoo and conditioner from Ethique, and body lotion from Kate Mcleod.

Eco-Friendly Deodorant

No one wants a smelly travel companion. Wild deodorant keep you smelling fresh with it’s compostable, plastic free refills and a 100% effective formula. No more sneaky armpit whiffs!

Reef Safe Sunscreen

Reef-friendly sunscreens keep your skin from peeling and the reefs from bleaching, and you can check out our favorite reef safe sun creams in our previous blog post! Some of our favorites include Coola, REN, and Green People.

Sustainable Tote Bags

Compact, reusable tote bags can be a lifesaver (literally- plastic bags choke countless sea creatures) and a lot of places have enacted taxes or bans on single use plastic bags. You can throw them in whatever main bag you’re carrying or even a jacket pocket. Any last minute grocery runs or holiday splurges can go right into your handy totes! You can grab an incredibly cute one from Baggu (a little pricey) or find some at your local supermarket!
